Managing Director
Gunnar Volkers has been Managing Director of North Channel Bank since January 1, 2017. Over the last nine and a half years, he successfully served as General Manager of Nordea Bank in Germany, and established the institute as one of Europe’s leading providers of commodity clearing services.
Gunnar Volkers’ core skills include corporate management, organizational development, and international cooperation, including cross-border coordination and participation in client acquisition and marketing activities. In the past, he was also responsible for the successful development of over 1,700 corporate client portfolios and for the innovative product development along the client value chain. His duties included personnel development and project management for numerous projects relating to SEPA, restructuring, and commodity clearing.
Mr Volkers served in various executive positions for Nordea Bank since 1991. As Head of Corporate Banking from 1997 to 2007, he was responsible for the expansion of the business activities with the Nordic subsidiaries and major German companies.
From 1994 until 1997, he held the position of Senior Relationship Manager and Deputy Head of Corporate Banking in Frankfurt, while between 1991 and 1994 he was responsible as Head of Credit Division for the development of this division in the newly founded branch office in Germany. Gunnar Volkers began his career at Den Danske Bank as a Relationship Manager focusing on German enterprises operating in the Danish market.
Gunnar Volkers studied law at the University of Copenhagen and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the Graduate School of Business Administration in Zurich. He has also participated in the Executive Programme (Inter-Alpha Group of Banks) of the INSEAD Business School, Fontainbleau, during the course of his career.
